Who We Are
The Friends of Southgate Community Center, Inc. was established in 2018 by members of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council. We are a fully accredited 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate (CHCC) and staff in providing community service to the Southgate neighborhood and greater Reston. We help fund family events, multigenerational programming, and cultural activities.
We frequently partner with local schools, churches, County law enforcement, and other community organizations to ensure that the needs of the community are being addressed.
In addition, we offer financial support to our active youth members (13 years and older) seeking enrichment opportunities to contribute to their overall development and well-being.
STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT AND ACTION
We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We are dedicated to upholding the dignity and self-worth of all people, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity and expression.

What We Do
Support
Through our support to the Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate (CHCC) programs, after-school initiatives, and family services, we help foster a positive and nurturing environment where kids can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We work to ensure that through CHCC every child has access to the tools and support they need to succeed and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
Enrichment Award 2025
The Enrichment Award empowers young minds to unleash their full potential by providing financial support for a diverse range of educational and life-enriching activities. Whether they aspire to become scientists, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, or pursue any other passion, the Enrichment Award is a stepping stone to success. Congratulations to the Winners!
Community
By working closely with local organizations, volunteers, and donors, we support an inclusive, resilient, and compassionate community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Our work is driven by a belief in the power of collective action and the importance of lifting up every member of our community.
Funding
We play a crucial role in strengthening CHCC’s capacity, by helping to fund and support a wide range of programs for youth, adults, and seniors. Through our contributions, we help the center to offer enriching activities that promote learning, personal growth, and social connection for people of all ages.
Assistance
We assist CHCC by offering innovative ideas, efficient logistical planning, and active involvement in community programs and events. We work hand-in-hand with the center to develop creative strategies that align with their mission, ensuring each initiative is impactful and well-executed.
Opportunities
Through our support, we help youth from any background to access creative, educational, and recreational opportunities that promote growth and well-being. Families also enjoy opportunities to bond and engage in enriching activities together, all free of charge.
